As a former Special Education teacher, I want to reflect on Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month and its crucial importance for our community.
Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month is about raising awareness of the challenges faced by people with developmental disabilities while celebrating their invaluable contributions to society. This year's theme, "We're Here All Year," reminds us that awareness, inclusion, and accessibility are important not only this month but all year.
About 17% of young Americans and around 1.8% of Americans as a whole have a developmental disability. These individuals often encounter barriers in education or employment, but they face their challenges with passion and strength. With the right support system, they can thri
