A moderate 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck Southern California Monday morning, shaking residents across San Diego and Riverside counties, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The quake was initially reported as a 6.2 but was later downgraded to 5.2 in the USGS’s fifth version report. The temblor struck at 10:08:28 a.m. PDT, approximately 4 kilometers (3 miles) south of Julian, with a depth of 13.4 kilometers (8.3 miles).
Shaking was felt throughout the region, including San Diego Country Estates, Ramona, Pine Valley, and Warner Springs, though no major damage or injuries have been reported as of this update.
The USGS assigned the quake a “fair” location quality and recorded 38 stations detecting the event. Its coordinates were pinpointed at 33.043°N, 116.595°W.

The event, labeled ID# ci40925991, is part of ongoing seismic monitoring by the Southern California Seismic Network, a joint project between the USGS and Caltech Seismological Laboratory in Pasadena.
No tsunami warning was issued, and local authorities are continuing to monitor for aftershocks.
There was a 5.2 magnitude earthquake felt strongly around San Diego County and up into Riverside County as well. It was first reported as a 6.2.
