Two suspects and one teen are in custody following an investigation into a shooting in Temecula that left two people injured earlier this month.
Shawna Nicole Harper, 37, of Pala, and Alphonso Zavala, 36, of Vista, were taken into custody Tuesday after Riverside County Sheriff’s Department detectives identified them as being involved in the incident, which occurred near the intersection of Temecula Parkway and Redhawk Parkway on May 5.
According to Sgt. Joe Narciso, the altercation began as a dispute between a 16-year-old boy from Pala, Harper, Zavala, and two unidentified individuals. During the confrontation, the Pala teenager allegedly fired shots at another vehicle, wounding two occupants. Both victims were treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local trauma center and have since recovered.
The teenager was identified as the suspected shooter and taken into custody at Southwest Juvenile Hall, where his case is being processed through Riverside Juvenile Dependency Court. His identity has not been released due to his age.
Further investigation led to the arrest of Harper and Zavala. Harper is facing charges as an accessory to a felony and is being held at the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning on $50,000 bail. Zavala, who has a prior conviction, was booked at the Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta on multiple charges, including possession of an assault rifle, possession of a sawed-off shotgun, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He is also being held on $50,000 bail.
Harper surrendered to deputies without incident, while Zavala was apprehended at his residence on East Drive in Vista.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not released further details about the two other individuals involved in the altercation.
