Coady gives ACWA presentation on handling social media fallout

In July, an off-duty Eastern Municipal Water District employee was involved in an argument at Knott’s Berry Farm that escalated into racial slurs. After it became known that the individual was an EMWD employee, the district began receiving an influx of comments on its own social media platforms and elsewhere online.The district’s response and lessons learned were outlined by EMWD Assistant General Manager April Coady during a Dec. 3 presentation at the Association of California Water Agencies fall conference in San Diego. The presentation was titled Navigating the Fallout of a Controversial Social Media Moment.“I think it was pretty well received just from the comments,” Coady said. “Most other agencies were appreciative of us sharing our experiences.”Coady, Eastern
