Vehicle overturns off Interstate 215 in Murrieta; driver trapped

MURRIETA— The slow lane was blocked after a solo vehicle crash along northbound Interstate 215 near Clinton Keith Road that left at least one person trapped inside the vehicle Sunday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported at approximately 8:31 a.m. when a vehicle traveling northbound left the roadway on the right shoulder, struck trees and overturned. Witnesses reported seeing dirt and tree branches flying before the vehicle came to rest off the freeway and out of view.

CHP logs indicate the vehicle landed on its roof and was smoking when first responders arrived. Murrieta Fire Department crews were dispatched after reports that a person was trapped inside the vehicle. Firefighters blocked the slow lane as they worked the scene and prepared for extrication.

An extra barttalion chief and an extra engine was called to the response.

A tow truck was requested to assist with recovery, with at least 25 feet of cable needed due to the vehicle’s location off the roadway. The vehicle was later removed by United Tow.

The extent of injuries has not been released. No other vehicles were reported involved in the crash.

Traffic was impacted in the northbound lanes near Clinton Keith Road while emergency crews responded.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
