SAN DIEGO – The San José State Spartans women’s basketball team is searching for answers after a challenging week in Mountain West Conference play, with losses to San Diego State and Boise State adding to their struggles this season.

On January 24, 2026, the Spartans fell to San Diego State 94-66 at Viejas Arena. Allie Cummins led San José State with 19 points, while Stella Sgro added 11. The Aztecs controlled the game from the outset, with standout performances from Nala Williams, who recorded 20 points and 10 assists, and Kennedy Lee, who added a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. The loss marked the Aztecs’ 11th consecutive win and highlighted the Spartans’ difficulty in keeping pace with one of the conference’s top teams.

A week later, San José State faced Boise State and suffered a 96-62 defeat. Amira Brown led the Spartans with 15 points, while Cummins contributed 12. Despite their efforts, the Broncos’ balanced scoring overwhelmed San José State, dropping the Spartans to a 1-10 record in Mountain West play.

Junior guard Briannah McGee, a Murrieta Valley High School graduate, has yet to make her mark on the court this season. In her first year with the Spartans, McGee brings a strong athletic background, having excelled in basketball, lacrosse, and track and field during her high school career. At Murrieta Valley, she earned All-League MVP honors in lacrosse and recorded a double-double in the CIF Southern Section Playoffs.

The Spartans will look to regroup as they prepare to host Fresno State on February 4, 2026. With the season entering its final stretch, San José State is focused on finding ways to compete and improve in the highly competitive Mountain West Conference.
