MURRIETA, Calif. — A single-vehicle collision involving a fire hydrant and an electrical box forced the closure of southbound Jefferson Avenue and left several local businesses without power Friday morning, according to the Murrieta Police Department.
Officers responded to the scene at Jefferson Avenue and Corning Place earlier in the morning. Murrieta Fire & Rescue also responded to the incident. The crash resulted in injuries of unknown severity.
Police closed the southbound lanes of Jefferson Avenue at Corning Place while emergency crews worked to clear the scene. The department announced at 6:46 a.m. that the roadways had been reopened to traffic.
While the roads have cleared, the collision caused significant disruption to electrical service in the immediate commercial area. Southern California Edison crews remain on scene working to repair the damaged utility box.
According to police, the outage is expected to last for a “large portion of the day.”
The power failure is affecting the shopping center housing Prestige Golf Carts at 26525 and 26529 Jefferson Ave. Additionally, the shopping center directly across the street at 26540 Jefferson Ave. is without power. Affected businesses in that center include Floor Pros, Tint World, LEER Truck Accessory Center, and Murrieta Auto Repair.
