A solo white Tesla sedan crashed and went down an embankment on northbound Interstate 215 near the Newport Road on-ramp Monday evening, prompting lane closures and an emergency response.
According to California Highway Patrol (CHP) dispatch logs, the incident began just before 6:00 p.m. The vehicle reportedly crossed all traffic lanes before traveling off the right side of the freeway and coming to rest in a concrete drainage channel at the bottom of the embankment.
Emergency personnel, including the Riverside County Fire Department, responded to the scene. An ambulance was dispatched to the location; however, the collision resulted in injuries of unknown severity.
By 6:21 p.m., fire department personnel, operating Riverside County Fire Engine 76, had blocked the Newport Road on-ramp to secure the area and facilitate recovery efforts.
Authorities requested a tow truck equipped with 40 feet of cable to retrieve the vehicle from the ditch. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and no further details regarding the driver or the vehicle’s speed have been released at this time.
