
ANZA — One person was killed and two others were airlifted to a hospital following a two-vehicle crash Wednesday morning along State Route 371 near Anza, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The collision was reported around 7:05 a.m. Wednesday, March 11, on SR-371 south of Homestead Road, according to CHP officials.
Authorities said the crash involved a Honda Insight and a Toyota Tacoma. The driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver and passenger of the Tacoma were airlifted to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.
According to a CHP incident log, the crash occurred on westbound SR-371 just west of Cary Road. A pickup truck was reported overturned on the shoulder of the roadway, with the driver and passenger still inside the vehicle following the collision. Emergency crews, including Cal Fire personnel, responded to assist at the scene.
The two patients in the Tacoma were prepared for transport by air ambulance.
Traffic along SR-371 remained open but was reduced to one-way traffic control for about an hour while emergency crews worked at the scene and conducted an investigation.
The identity of the deceased driver has not yet been released.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
CHP Temecula reminded motorists to slow down, stay alert, eliminate distractions and always wear seat belts.
“Your choices on the road can save lives — yours and others,” CHP officials said.
