Riverside County deputies investigating apparent murder-suicide in Mead Valley

A 56-year-old woman and her 26-year-old son are dead following an apparent murder-suicide at a Mead Valley residence Saturday night, authorities said.

Deputies from the Perris Sheriff’s Station responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon in the 20900 block of Verta Street at 9:52 p.m., according to a press release from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office.

Upon arrival, deputies found Guadalupe Laborin suffering from gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies also located Laborin’s son, Julio Garcia, dead at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, investigators said. Both Laborin and Garcia were residents of Mead Valley.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office Central Homicide Unit responded to the scene and has assumed the investigation. Authorities have identified Garcia as the suspect in his mother’s death and stated they do not believe any additional suspects are involved.

The investigation remains active and ongoing, and the sheriff’s office has not released a motive or any further details.

Authorities are asking anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Central Homicide Unit Investigator Cook at 951-217-8847 or Perris Station Investigator Garcia-Flores at 951-210-1000.
