Third-Alarm Fire in Jurupa Valley Displaces 14 Adults; Firefighters Revive 4 Cats

A third-alarm fire tore through a multi-unit residential complex in Jurupa Valley on Monday afternoon, displacing 14 adults and leaving nine units uninhabitable, authorities said.

Firefighters responded to reports of heavy smoke showing from a single-story structure in the 3000 block of Emma Street at 3:49 p.m. Crews successfully knocked down the blaze at 4:58 p.m., just over an hour after the initial report.

One civilian sustained a minor injury, was treated at the scene, and declined transport to a local hospital. No other human injuries were reported.

During the primary search and rescue efforts, firefighters rescued four cats from the burning structure. Crews performed CPR on the animals at the scene before transferring them to Animal Control officers for further emergency veterinary treatment.

Following the extinguishment of the blaze, officials from the City of Jurupa Valley Building and Safety division evaluated the complex. They officially deemed nine units uninhabitable due to extensive fire and smoke damage, as well as a total loss of power. Southern California Edison and SoCalGas were dispatched to the scene to manage utility hazards.

The American Red Cross Southern California Region is currently assisting the 14 displaced adults with emergency housing and essential needs.

Fire resources remained on the scene into Monday evening to conduct heavy salvage and overhaul operations to ensure no hidden hot spots remained.
