A multi-vehicle traffic collision, which included one fatality, blocked all northbound lanes of Interstate 15 near Main Street in Lake Elsinore on Tuesday afternoon, prompting a SigAlert and major traffic disruptions, according to California Highway Patrol logs.
Four people were reported to have been transported to a local hospital and one required extrication. The crash was first reported at approximately 3:54 p.m. and initially involved as many as six vehicles but was later updated to four vehicles. Early reports indicated all lanes were blocked, with motorists using the shoulder to get around the scene.
Emergency responders, including Cal Fire, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office and Murrieta Police Department, were dispatched. A SigAlert was issued shortly after 4:06 p.m., with authorities advising that all lanes would remain closed until further notice due to the severity of the crash.
One of the vehicles involved was identified as a Ram 5500 pickup truck transporting two vehicles. Heavy-duty tow services were requested, including recovery for evidence handling.
Officials anticipated extended closures, and additional resources were called in to assist with traffic control and clearing the roadway.
By approximately 4:39 p.m., authorities began reopening lanes, and traffic started to move through the area. Crews continued working to fully clear the scene.
No information on injuries was immediately available.
