Deputy-Involved Shooting Ends Pursuit of Armed Suspect in Perris

A vehicle pursuit of an armed man experiencing a reported mental health crisis ended in a deputy-involved shooting Monday afternoon in Perris. Deputies from the Perris Sheriff’s Station responded to a call at 2:54 p.m. in the 5000 block of Western Way. According to the reporting party, an armed male suffering from a mental health episode was driving toward the location with a handgun. Responding deputies located a vehicle matching the description provided near the northbound 215 Freeway and Placentia Avenue. A pursuit was initiated after deputies attempted a traffic stop and the driver failed to yield. With assistance from the Riverside Sheriff’s K9 Unit, deputies deployed a grappler device, successfully bringing the vehicle to a stop near the intersection of Harvill Avenue and Olea
