Firefighters Halt Spread of Two Friday Afternoon Brush Fires in Riverside County

Firefighters successfully halted the forward progress of two separate vegetation fires in Riverside County on Friday afternoon, lifting evacuations and securing perimeters in both Wildomar and Sycamore Hills.

The larger of the two incidents, the Palomar Fire, ignited in the 21000 block of Palomar Street in Wildomar. By 4:20 p.m., crews had contained 75% of the 11-acre blaze. All associated evacuation orders and warnings for the surrounding zones were canceled. Palomar Street remains closed between Gruwell and Wesley streets for approximately three hours while firefighters remain on the scene to conduct mop-up operations and extinguish lingering hotspots.

In a separate incident on Friday, crews responded to the Reseda Fire located off Sawh Court and Sycamore Springs Road in the Sycamore Hills area. Incident Command reported that the forward progression of this fire was successfully stopped at two to three acres.

The causes of both the Palomar and Reseda fires remain under investigation. Currently, there are no official reports of casualties from either incident. In accordance with reporting protocols, should any medical evaluations be required, individuals will be reported as having injuries of unknown severity until explicit confirmation is provided by a Public Information Officer, the Sheriff’s Office, the California Highway Patrol, or the North County Fire Protection District.
