Community honors Flag Day with veterans-led flag retirement ceremony

A group of dedicated veterans organized a National Flag Day U.S. flag retirement ceremony Saturday, June 13 at the Lake Riverside Estates Veterans Memorial, bringing together residents, first responders and veterans for a solemn tribute to the nation's flag.The lakeside Memorial holds special significance for the community. It is the site of a bench honoring hometown hero Marine Corps mortarman Jeromy West, who was 20 when he was killed in Iraq in 2006.
