The City of Hemet will be purchasing 35 portable radios for use by Hemet Police Department field personnel.A 5-0 Hemet City Council vote July 14 approved the purchase of 35 Harris XL-300 portable radios from Hi-Desert Communications, whose headquarters is in Victorville. The November 2016 election included the passage of Measure U, which imposes a 1 percent sales tax for ten years to fund municipal services, and funding from that source will be used to pay the $320,474.59 amount stipulated in the purchase agreement.The Hemet Police Department has utilized Harris handheld radios since 2014. A recent assessment identified numerous older radios which have deteriorated due to age and continued use. Those units are in need of replacement due to spare parts no longer being readily availa
