Temecula City Council approves amendments to massage establishment ordinance
The Temecula City Council updated the city’s massage establishment ordinance.
A 5-0 vote July 28 approved a second reading and adoption of the amendments to the ordinance. The city council had approved the first reading and introduction of the amendments July 14 on a 5-0 vote.
The ordinance had previously defined massage as the scientific manipulation of the soft tissues of the human body, including bodywork such as reiki, trigger point, shiatsu, cupping, and lymphatic drainage. The amendments delete reiki from the definition of massage while defining reiki as an energy healing technique aimed at reducing stress, inducing relaxation, and promoting healing by balancing the body’s energy fields. The definition notes that reiki may include the laying of hands above or upon a person’s
