A fast-moving vegetation fire, dubbed the Melba Fire, has prompted localized evacuations in Riverside County on Monday evening as flames threaten at least one structure.
First reported to be approximately a half-acre in size at 5:48 p.m., the fire initially showed a moderate rate of spread uphill through grass, according to Incident Command. Conditions escalated quickly within minutes.
By 5:53 p.m., Incident Command reported the fire had rapidly expanded to between five and 10 acres. The blaze is currently exhibiting a rapid rate of spread as it continues to burn uphill in light grass.
In response to the growing threat, law enforcement officials began conducting localized evacuations around 6:01 p.m., per Incident Command.
