Hemet City Council authorizes purchase of 12 police vehicles

The Hemet City Council authorized the purchase and equipment fitting of 12 new vehicles for the Hemet Police Department.The 5-0 vote on September 8 approved the acquisition of nine Ford Police Interceptor Utility vehicles, one Ford Maverick, and two BMW RT-P police motorcycles. The vehicles will replace six police vehicles and two motorcycles that have been deemed surplus, while the additional four units will accommodate increased staffing and maintain sufficient vehicle availability.The Hemet Police Department has a fleet of marked and unmarked vehicles to provide patrol, traffic enforcement, investigative, administrative, and community services. Police vehicles have long operating hours, frequent idling, emergency driving conditions, and additional weight from installed equipment
