Art, apple pies and the charm of the countryside come together Saturday, Oct. 3, when the Warner Springs Artisan Guild presents Art in the Orchard at historic Mom’s Pie House in Wynola from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
This family-friendly event offers visitors the opportunity to savor world-famous apple pie and seasonal treats while browsing a curated selection of original fine art and unique, handmade crafts. Set against the backdrop of Mom’s Pie House’s gorgeous grounds, the event will feature art demonstrations, as well as live music by Vince Mendoza from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m..
Wynola is a little-known hidden gem, located on the scenic highway between Santa Ysabel and Julian at 4510 CA-78, about four miles west of downtown Julian. It offers a unique collection of shops and restaurants, away from the crowds and parking headaches of its better-known neighbors.
“I love living in the Wynola area because the climate is more temperate than higher up in Julian – excellent for growing crops, apples and pears,” said resident artist Jan Narrin. “It’s an emerging area with many new things for our visitors to do when they come to our lovely little mountain town.”
Mom’s Pie House is an historic destination at the heart of Wynola and a perennial favorite for baked delights. The pie shop is flanked by a lovely garden on one side and an orchard on the other. During the event, the grounds will be dotted with local artists exhibiting their wares.
Visitors can meet friendly, creative folks while browsing their original artworks and hand-crafted woodwork, pottery, glasswork, jewelry and apparel. It’s the perfect opportunity to find one-of-a-kind gifts that fit any budget.
According to the Warner Springs Artisan Guild, member Mark Willden will be featuring vases, candleholders and more fashioned from local native woods. Linda Todd-Limon will be showcasing her photography. Monica Rue will be demonstrating her yarn spinning technique and also offering knitting and crochet classes. A good showing of Guild members will be attending the event.
“We are delighted to have local, talented artists showing, and hopefully selling their work at Mom’s Pies and Garden,” says owner Anita Nichols. “It should be wonderful fun.”
The Warner Springs Artisan Guild is a non-profit group of thirty-seven professional artists and talented artisans working in many media. They are painters, sculptors, glass artists, jewelers, woodworkers, photographers, potters, leatherworkers and textile artists. The Guild was formed to provide opportunities for local artisans to connect, collaborate, and market their work as well as to foster creative and business opportunities in the community.
