Hospice of the Valleys and Thrifting 4 Gifting were awarded Community Improvement Designation funds by the Riverside County Board of Supervisors.
The supervisors’ 5-0 vote October 20 allocated $2,500 for Hospice of the Valleys and $2,000 to Thrifting 4 Gifting. Community Improvement Designation grants can be allocated to non-profit organizations, public agencies, county departments, or other organizations with programs which serve the social needs of the county’s population. Each county supervisor recommends the allocation of CID funding from his or her district budget, although a majority Board of Supervisors vote is needed to approve that recommendation. County Supervisor Karen Spiegel recommended the use of her District 2 budget for the Hospice of the Valleys and Thrifting 4 Gifting grants.
Hospice of the Valleys is in Murrieta. The organization provides care to people with life-threatening illnesses. The CID funding will support the Senior Assistance Program which provides financial assistance for hospice care services to seniors and individuals with severe disabilities.
Thrifting 4 Gifting, whose office is in Temecula, has a School Zone Project which partners with Target to provide school clothing to students from low-income families within the Lake Elsinore Unified School District. The CID money will help fund that program.
