TEMECULA – Linfield Christian’s girls flag football team made a bold statement Wednesday night, shutting out Western Christian 21-0 in a key Ambassador League game in Upland. The victory not only avenged last year’s narrow losses to the Lancers but also propelled the Lions into first place in the league standings.
The Lions (14-4 overall, 2-0 league) capitalized on a strong defensive performance and efficient offensive execution. Quarterback Caden Johnson led the charge, completing 19 of 28 passes for 173 yards and three touchdowns. Despite being sacked five times, Johnson’s composure and her receivers’ ability to gain yards after the catch proved pivotal.
“Our receivers are great at making plays after the catch, which really helps us move the ball,” Johnson said.
Linfield Christian’s defense stifled Western Christian’s offense, limiting them to just 137 passing yards and forcing a critical interception late in the game. Natalie Zaruka’s pick with three minutes remaining set up the Lions’ final touchdown, sealing the victory.

The Lions struck first in the opening quarter, with a 7-yard touchdown pass from Johnson to Daniella Phelan following a 28-yard punt return by Jules Richter. The game remained tight until the fourth quarter, when Johnson connected with Autumn Cabrera for a 5-yard score, extending the lead to 14-0. Richter capped off the night with a late touchdown reception.
Western Christian (11-5, 2-1) struggled to find offensive rhythm, with coach Chris Estrada citing missed opportunities and a strong Linfield pass rush as key factors. “We need to clean up the drops and missed chances,” Estrada said. “This game was a big piece of the league race, and now they’re in the driver’s seat.”
The two teams are set to meet again on Oct. 13, with Western Christian looking to even the score. For now, Linfield Christian has established itself as the team to beat in the Ambassador League.
