TEMECULA – The Rancho Christian Eagles boys’ basketball team capped off their Ivy League campaign in style, clinching the championship with an emphatic 85-54 victory over Liberty last week at the Val Center. The win extended their league record to a perfect 8-0 and improved their overall season mark to 17-9.
Tony Rutlege led the charge for the Eagles, pouring in 24 points to pace the offense. Dave Mapey added 14 points, providing a strong secondary scoring option. Rancho Christian’s balanced attack and defensive intensity overwhelmed Liberty, setting the tone for what could be a deep postseason run.

The Eagles have been on a tear, winning 11 of their last 12 games, including a recent 75-56 triumph over Orange Vista. Over this stretch, Rancho Christian has averaged an impressive 72.2 points per game, showcasing their offensive firepower. Their recent success has propelled them to a strong position heading into the 2026 CIF Southern Section boys basketball playoffs.
The CIF-SS playoffs, which begin Feb. 11 for most divisions, will feature a competitive equity model to determine seeding across 10 divisions, including the prestigious Open Division. Rancho Christian will look to carry their momentum into the postseason, where championship games are scheduled for Feb. 27-28.
As the Eagles prepare for the playoffs, their recent dominance in league play and strong performances against tough competition have made them a team to watch. With Rutlege and Mapey leading the way, Rancho Christian is poised to make noise in the postseason.
