The 2026 Kids Free Fishing Tournament, which is held at the Golden Era Golf Course in San Jacinto will take place March 28.
The fishing tournament will begin at 8 a.m. and conclude at 11 a.m., although other activities will follow. The tournament will be held on the golf course’s three lakes.
“All three lakes are going to be open to the kids to fish. No golfing that day,” said Kids Free Fishing Tournament president Albert Kissinger.
The tournament is open to children ages 6 through 15 although a kids’ area for children under six will include games and prizes. “We try to include everybody that we can,” Kissinger said.
Prizes will be given for the largest fish caught. The tournament has a 6-11 age group and a 12-15 age group. The children placing first through tenth in each age bracket will receive medallions and other prizes. The grand champion for the largest fish caught in the two age brackets combined will receive four tickets to Disneyland, while the second-place grand champion will be given two tickets to Disneyland.
Various companies provided donations for goodie bags, and while supplies last all children will receive a T-shirt and a goodie bag. Rods and reels will be loaned to children whose families don’t have such equipment.
Assistance will also be provided to children without fishing experience. “We have a couple of local bass clubs that come in and help the kids,” Kissinger said.
Other prizes will be provided for catching specific fish. “We do have specially marked fish that are worth instant prizes,” Kissinger said.
In addition to the prize-specific fish the lakes will include bass, catfish, and bluegill.
