MORENO VALLEY – The Riverside County Department of Waste Resources (RCDWR) will host a FREE home composting workshop for the public on Saturday, April 4, 9 AM – 1 PM at the RCDWR main office located at 14310 Frederick Street, Moreno Valley, CA 92553.

Attendees will learn how to turn organic materials, such as yard trimmings and food scraps, into nutrient-rich soil amendment through various composting methods. RCDWR Volunteer Service Coordinators will teach participants how to maintain an outdoor composting pile or bin, as well as the convenient composting system that uses Red Wiggler worms, known as vermicomposting. Participants will learn worm bin maintenance and how to harvest worm castings. Finished compost can be added to home gardens, houseplants, and lawns!

Low-cost compost bins and worm bin kits will be available for purchase by Riverside County residents (limit three per household). Residents may purchase by cash or Visa, MasterCard, or Discover (credit card service fee will apply).

No registration or sign-up is required! All walk-ins welcome. All attendees must be at least 14 years old.

FREE compost material will also be available for collection before, during, and after the class. Shovels will be provided but participants must bring their own bucket and/or bag to collect material.
