One person was killed and another suffered major injuries in a two-vehicle collision on Gilman Springs Road that temporarily closed the roadway Monday evening.
The crash occurred at the intersection of Gilman Springs Road and Alessandro Boulevard and involved a red Toyota Camry Solara and a pickup truck.
According to initial reports from the scene, both drivers were trapped inside their vehicles following the collision. Several passing motorists stopped to render aid while emergency crews were en route.
CAL FIRE firefighters extricated both drivers from the wreckage. One of the drivers died from injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the Toyota Camry Solara was transported with major injuries to Riverside University Health System Medical Center.
As emergency crews investigated the collision, eastbound traffic on Gilman Springs Road was diverted onto Alessandro Boulevard. Motorists traveling toward Gilman Springs Road from Alessandro Boulevard were still able to continue eastbound.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation. Authorities have not released the identities of those involved pending notification of next of kin.
