Temecula City Council accepts road closures through November

Four events in the City of Temecula between September and October that would require road closures are planned, and the Temecula City Council accepted those road closures.

The 4-0 vote August 11, with Matt Rahn absent, officially received and filed the temporary closure of certain streets for the four 2026 fall events. That action allowed the city council to ratify the road closures for the September 11 remembrance, the October 30 Halloween Carnival, Pechanga Pu’Eska Mountain Day on November 15, and the holiday decoration installation on November 16 and November 17.

On September 11, 2001, terrorists hijacked four airline flights in the eastern United States and flew those planes into occupied buildings (passengers in one of those planes brought that aircraft to the ground before it could damage its target). A 25th anniversary ceremony of that attack is slated for outside of City Hall, and the Main Street “Y” and Mercedes Street from Third Street to Fourth Street will be closed from noon to 9:00 p.m.

(This year is the third since 2001 that September 11 is on a Friday during the high school football season. Temecula Valley High School has a home game against Hillcrest of Riverside. Chaparral will play at home against Rancho Cucamonga. Great Oak will travel to Murrieta Mesa. Linfield Christian’s game will be in Huntington Beach against Ocean View. St. Jeanne de Lestonnac Catholic School plays at San Jacinto Valley. Temecula Prep, which is not within the city limits, will host Firebaugh of Lynwood.)

The Friday night date of the Halloween Carnival will allow local businesses to participate. The October 30 activities in Town Square Park will include games, prizes, and costume contests. The Main Street ‘Y’ and Mercedes Street between Third Street and Fourth Street will be closed from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.

The Pechanga Band of Luiseño Indians will be celebrating the Sacred Creation Area of Pu’éska Mountain on November 15, and the city will have its own Pechanga Pu’Eska Mountain Day commemoration that Sunday. The Main Street “Y” and Mercedes Street from Third Street to Fourth Street will be closed from noon to 9:00 p.m.

During the following two days the Old Town Christmas Tree and holiday photo opportunities will be installed at the bottom of the Main Street ‘Y’ and the surrounding area. The Main Street “Y” will be closed November 16 and November 17 between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Mercedes Street will stay open during those two days.
