In honor of Arbor Day, normally celebrated the last Friday of April, Reggie Mattox, president of Hemet Women's Club with club Arbor Day Chairman Priscilla Lindquist put the last few shovelfuls of dirt in the planting of a Chinese Pistache tree in Hemet's Gibbel Park. The women’s group annually plants a tree in the park, keeping not only the Arbor Day tradition of planting a tree each year started in Nebraska in 1872, but to help Hemet keep its status as a "Tree City USA."
