Fire near downtown Riverside threatens homes

RIVERSIDE (CNS) - A brush fire that started Wednesday on a hillside near the Santa Ana River bottom in downtown Riverside scorched about three acres and threatened homes before crews deployed to contain it. The blaze was reported at 11:40 a.m. in the area of Indian Hill and Ladera Lane, just south of the Santa Ana River bottom, according to the Riverside Fire Department. Capt. Brian Guzzetta told City News Service that the fire was posing an immediate threat to several residences, which were evacuated. Multiple engine crews were attempting to encircle the wildfire, and additional personnel were requested from the Corona and Colton fire agencies.
