Fire breaks out near Lake Mathews, halted at 35 acres

LAKE MATHEWS (CNS) - A brush fire broke out today in an open field just northwest of Lake Mathews, but fire crews held the blaze to about 35 acres. There were no reports of any injuries or structural damage caused by the Sobrante Fire, which was reported at 12:05 p.m. in the area of El Sobrante Road and La Sierra Avenue, according to the Riverside County Fire Department. Multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames moving at a moderate rate through high grass, fire officials said. Cal Fire water-dropping helicopters and air tankers were summoned to make runs on the brusher, forming initial containment lines to bound the fire on several flanks.
