Americans were stunned in January when they heard Virginia Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam, a former physician, casually infer infanticide after a botched abortion. After birth, he said, “the infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and mother.” Until that moment, few thought abortion could degenerate to infanticide.
