Fire ignites in Riverside homeless encampment

RIVERSIDE (CNS) - A fire broke out at a homeless encampment in Riverside Saturday, but no one was injured.The fire was reported Saturday morning at Fairmount Park, 2601 Fairmount Blvd., Riverside Fire Department Battalion Chief Bruce Vanderhorst said."A homeless encampment was on fire and burning the surrounding vegetation," Vanderhorst said.Some 800 feet of hose was required to access the 40-by-40-foot spot in heavy vegetation, he said.The flames were reported out at 10:56 a.m., Vanderhorst said. The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
