HS Girls’ Water Polo: Lady Nighthawks turn it up at America’s Finest City Tournament

The Murrieta Valley High School Lady Nighthawks had two outstanding defensive performances Friday night, Jan. 17, at the America’s Finest City Tournament, allowing eight combined goals against Torrey Pines and Cathedral Catholic high schools. Maryn Dempsey scored six goals to help Murrieta Valley open the tourney with a 12-4 victory over Torrey Pines. The Lady Nighthawks led 8-1 at halftime, and that’s when head coach Chris Boyer elected to rest many of his starters during the second half. Avery Wood added three goals, and Tyanna Schneider recorded nine saves to help their team move on.Murrieta Valley went on to face Oaks Christian High School in the quarterfinals Saturday, Jan. 18, where they capped the evening with a 7-4 victory over Cathedral Catholic, one of the top teams in th
