TEMECULA - A motorcycle rider was killed in a crash on Highway 79 just outside of Temecula Thursday evening.
It happened a little after 6:30 p.m. near the intersection of Highway 79 and Anza Road, California Highway Patrol Temecula spokesman Mike Lassig said.
According to a preliminary investigation, a man riding a 2016 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was heading southeast on Highway 79 when he came to a curve in the roadway that he was unable to safely negotiate, Lassig said. It's believed the biker crossed into opposing traffic and struck an oncoming 2009 Volvo semi-truck.
Emergency personnel responded to the crash shortly after it was reported, but the motorcycle rider, a 34-year-old Hemet man, died at the scene, Lassig said.
The driver of the semi-truck was uninjured.
