Murrieta Police Department asks residents to join security camera registry

The Murrieta Police Department is asking local residents and business owners who have security camera systems to join a registry that will allow officers to quickly track down anyone who may have footage in the event of a crime.The department put out a post on Facebook advertising the new registry, which they emphasized was voluntary, Friday, Jan. 31.“We do not want control or access to your cameras, just a contact list that we can refer to as needed,” the post said.Since then, “hundreds” of Murrieta residents have signed up for the program, according to Murrieta police Sgt.
