Menifee begins LED streetlight retrofit program to increase energy efficiency and reduce long-term operation costs

MENIFEE – With increased energy efficiency and reduced costs over the long term in mind, Menifee has begun a program to retrofit over 6,500 of the city’s existing streetlights. Work began March 6 to switch existing streetlights to energy efficient LED fixtures.The new LED fixtures are substantially more energy efficient, have a longer life span than the sodium lamps currently in use, require less maintenance and provide additional benefits such as reduced light pollution and improved color perception for residents.“We are excited to begin upgrading our existing streetlights from sodium lamps to more efficient LED fixtures,” Dean Dienes, the city councilmember for District 4, said. “In addition to reduced energy use being good for the environment, the city will save over $
