Voepel secures seat in California’s 71st assembly district

The March 3 primary election is due to be certified by April 10, but with only 51,000 votes left to count in Riverside County, it’s easy to predict the outcome in some of the more visible, and in some cases, hotly contested races. Incumbent state Assembly Rep. Randy Voepel, R-Santee defeated challenger Elizabeth Lavertu, securing 61.8% of the vote to her 38.2%. Over in the U.S. House of Representatives 41st Congressional District, incumbent Mark Takano, D-Riverside, was the top vote-getter at 50.4%, defeating Republican Aja Smith, 34.4%, and Democrat Grace Williams, 15.2%.
