When my wife Laura and I decided to start Fusion Christian Church in late 2006, we were really excited. We knew it was going to be amazing. So, we packed up the children, moved to Temecula and launched the church in 2007.Little did we know it was also going to be the launch of our country’s Great Recession and the “subprime mortgage crisis.” It was an awful time full of uncertainty.It was so bad that in a period of two years we were forced to move three times because the houses we were renting foreclosed. We ended up losing our deposits and struggled to find a new place. People were losing their homes left and right, and rentals were hard to come by.At one point about 80% of our church was either unemployed, facing foreclosure or filing for bankruptcy.
