RIVERSIDE (CNS) – Gusty winds are expected in the Coachella Valley and the Riverside County mountains today, plus rain could fall in the mountains and the Inland Empire tonight, according to the National Weather Service.

A trough of low pressure along the West Coast will cause temperatures to drop through Wednesday, then the mercury will gradually rise heading into the weekend, forecasters said.

The NWS issued a wind advisory that will be in effect from noon today to 5 a.m. Wednesday in the Coachella Valley, the San Gorgonio Pass and the Riverside County mountains.

Winds out of the west are expected to be between 20-30 mph, with gusts possibly reaching 50 mph near desert slopes and mountain passes, forecasters said.

NWS officials warned that winds could be strong enough to blow around unsecured objects and knock down tree limbs, potentially causing power outages.

There is also a 20% chance of light rain showers tonight in the mountains and the Riverside metropolitan area.

High temperatures today are forecast to reach 91 in the Coachella Valley, 72 in the San Gorgonio Pass, 72 in Hemet and Riverside, 71 in Lake Elsinore and Temecula and 57 in Idyllwild.

Highs in the Coachella Valley will drop to the high-80s on Wednesday, then rise gradually into the mid- to high-90s on Friday, forecasters said.
