Hemet City Council discusses spending priorities in the 2020-2021 budget

Rhodes, Writer The most recent Hemet City Council meeting Tuesday, June 9, was sandwiched inside an hourslong work study session regarding the city’s preliminary budget for fiscal year 2020-2021. The discussion resulted in more than 45 public comments about the city’s proposed spending. A staff report prepared by city manager Christopher Lopez was made available to the public before the meeting and was narrated with visual assists from Lopez during the work study that began about 5:30 p.m. After pausing at 7 p.m. to begin the regular meeting, the session resumed before 8:30 p.m. and lasted until Mayor Russ Brown adjourned the meeting shortly before 10:15 p.m. Since the greatest source of general fund revenue for the city is sales tax, the restrictions implemented due
