Firefighters contained a wildfire that broke out east of Murrieta shortly before noon Monday. The fire, in the 34100 block Elliot Road in Winchester, was reported at 11:52 a.m. The area is near the Spencer's Crossing neighborhood. An aircraft and water tender, along with multiple other fire crews, were responding to the blaze. Cal Fire Riverside tweeted about 20 minutes after the fire was first reported that it had scorched about five acres and was "burning in light, flashy fuels at a critical rate." Not long after that, Cal Fire posted to its website that the fire had increased in size to 10 acres. The forward spread of the fire was stopped by about 12:40 p.m. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the blaze was under investigation, Cal Fire Riverside said on Twitter.
