RIVERSIDE (CNS) - A heat wave is expected to grip Riverside County this week, with extreme temperatures forecast in the Coachella Valley heading into the weekend, the National Weather Service said Monday. A weak trough of low pressure will keep temperatures around average today, but a strong ridge of high pressure will start building Tuesday and send temperatures soaring until Sunday, forecasters said. The NWS issued an excessive heat watch for Thursday morning through Saturday evening in the Coachella Valley. Highs there could reach 116 on Friday and potentially hit 120 on Saturday, forecasters said. Riverside is also expected to see a spike in temperatures on Friday, with highs projected to reach 105.
