Riverside University Health System reported 220 new cases of COVID-19 Tuesday, Sept. 15, and 7 new deaths throughout the county. In all, 55,986 have tested positive for the virus and 1,125 people have died since the county began recording data back in early March.

The county reported there were four more people hospitalized overnight — a total of 155. There are currently 49 people being treated in ICUs for the virus, one more than the day before.

The county reported that 51,032 people have recovered from the virus, but that number is 443 more than what was reported Monday.

The county reported that 578,966 have been tested so far.

There were 403 confirmed cases in county jails and another 2,008 cases recorded in state prisons within the county Friday.

“I do have a bit of good news: Over 90% of those who have been diagnosed with a case have recovered,” Public Health Director Kim  Saruwatari told the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday.

Emergency Management Director Bruce Barton told the board that the county “continues to see a precipitous drop in hospitalizations” connected to the virus.

“We’re continuing to see the trends move in a positive direction,” he said. “We’re watching and monitoring.”

The number of known active virus cases is 3,899, a drop of 160 since Monday. The active count is derived by subtracting deaths and recoveries from the current total — 55,986 — according to the County Executive Office.

Riverside County began including a count of the recoveries in each city and community and Valley News has reformatted the report to make the numbers easier to read and interpret.
