Cougar Vineyards and Winery was successful in November in their joint attempt to get an Italian grape, ciliegiolo, recognized in the United States by the Alcohol & Tobacco Tax & Trade Bureau.“We’re going to put (that name) on the label and let people try to pronounce it,” Rick Buffington said. “And see how it comes out. Now that we have that approval, we can actually put it on the label.”Buffington talked about why getting ciliegiolo recognized was important to him, along with his wife and co-owner Jennifer and associate Pete Anderson of Eusinus Vineyard in Carlsbad.A bin full of ciliegiolo grapes waits to be moved after harvest at Cougar Vineyards & Winery.
