Man accused of fatal shooting in San Diego County arrested in Murrieta

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A young man suspected of fatally shooting another man in the El Cerrito neighborhood over the weekend was in custody Friday, Dec. 31. Joseph Mehlenbacher, 18, was arrested Wednesday in Murrieta on suspicion of murdering 28-year-old Kenneth Confer. Just after 11 p.m. Saturday, San Diego police received a 911 call of a possible shooting outside a residence in the 5700 block of El Cajon Boulevard. When officers arrived on scene, they found Confer on a second-floor landing with a gunshot wound to his head. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, SDPD Lt. Andra Brown said. Police said the victim had been in an altercation with a white male suspect who had fled the scene, but did not disclose whether the victim and suspect knew each other. Meh
