A fire tore through a two-story barn on a ranch just west of Murrieta Monday, Feb. 8, but crews prevented the flames from extending to surrounding vegetation and structures. No animals were reported injured or trapped in the blaze, which was reported about 12:15 p.m. in the 38400 block of Avenida Bonita, near Calle De Lobo, in the unincorporated community of La Cresta, according to the Riverside County Fire Department. Multiple engine crews from the county, as well as the city of Murrieta, were sent to the location and encountered smoke pouring out of the structure. Firefighters contained the flames to the barn, but roughly 90% of the structure was damaged before crews gained the upper hand, according to reports from the scene. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
