Cal Fire extinguishes fire in Temecula hills

TEMECULA (CNS) - A fire that erupted today on a hillside behind a water treatment plant in Temecula scorched about a half-acre before Cal Fire aircraft partially contained it. The blaze was reported about 1:40 p.m. in the area of Avenida Alvarado and Diaz Road, just west of Interstate 15, according to the Riverside County Fire Department. Multiple engine crews were sent to the scene, but crews were unable to gain immediate access because of a lack of paved roads, forcing them to hike to the location. A Cal Fire water-dropping helicopter and air tanker made several drops, smothering part of the blaze amid light winds out of the west, according to reports from the scene.
