Felon accused of fatally shooting man near Hemet arraigned
MURRIETA - A convicted felon accused of abducting and gunning down a man on a rural property south of Hemet pleaded not guilty today to murder and other charges.
Derrick Anthony Edgerson, 45, of Hemet was arrested last month after the alleged attack on the victim, identified in court documents only as "G.P.,'' in the 40500 block of Newport Road, near Girard Street, about a mile east of Diamond Valley Lake.
Along with murder, Edgerson is charged kidnapping, firearm assault, being a convicted felon in possession of a gun and sentence-enhancing gun and great bodily injury allegations.
The defendant was arraigned before Riverside County Superior Court Judge Judith Clark, who scheduled a felony settlement conference for May 17 at the Southwest Justice Center in Murrieta.
