MURRIETA - A brush fire that erupted today on a hillside just west of Murrieta scorched 11 acres, briefly threatening homes, before crews got it fully contained.
The non-injury blaze was reported about 4:10 p.m. in the area of De Luz and John Wayne roads, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
Murrieta Fire Department crews arrived first and encountered flames moving downhill, in the direction of several residences. Multiple county engine and hand crews arrived minutes later and began establishing protective lines to contend with the head of the blaze.
A Cal Fire water-dropping helicopter reached the area by 4:45 p.m. and made a series of drops to help stop the fire's forward rate of spread, and te blaze was declared 100% contained at 5:19 p.m. There was no word on what migh
