Controlled burns planned around Lake Perris Wednesday and Thursday

PERRIS (CNS) – A series of controlled burns are scheduled Wednesday, May 12, and Thursday, May 13, around the Lake Perris State Recreation Area, and area residents and motorists are advised not to be alarmed by the smoke. According to the Riverside County Fire Department, the burns are generally planned between 6 a.m. and noon, targeting excess vegetation that California State Parks officials have requested be eliminated. The operations will have the added effect of restoring habitat for the Kangaroo Rat and burrowing owl, according to the fire department.
